I truly get excited when I hear that someone is going to travel to Paris France for the first time! Our first trip, which was years ago, still seems like yesterday. With map in hand, we began to search for hotels, book our flight and a rental car. We planned to visit the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, Chateau de Versailles and, weather permitting, Disneyland Paris. In other words ALL of the must see attractions, monuments, and museums. We already knew how to do most of that from our vacation travel in the States but, after all, this was not the States!

Have You Ever Been to Paris?

Read what others have to say about their first trip to Paris or tell everyone about your first trip to Paris on the Paris Visitor Stories page. What you write becomes a web page on our site!

Have You Ever Dreamed of Going to Paris?

The dream gets closer to reality on the Paris Quick Facts page.

As you might expect, there are many choices to be made before you even get close to departure day. One of the biggest problems we faced was locating sources of up to date, credible information. Most of what we found was either out of date, incorrect, or downright misleading. In addition, it was spread over what seemed like hundreds of different websites and what's worse, a lot of it was in French! Much of it was written by people who (we know now) obviously had never been to Paris!

Have You Ever Wondered What it Might Cost to Travel to Paris?

Ever Heard of the Paris Metro? How Would You Even Figure Out Where to Stay? Where Would You Go to Eat ? What About Real French Restaurants?

Answers for all these questions and more are on the Paris Trip Planner page.

What is the Best, Most Reliable, Source of Practical Information on Paris?

There was no shortage of marketing information on the attractions but there was a distinct shortage of more practical information on local transportation, best/safest areas to stay in, best places for we commoners to eat, details on getting from the airport to the city, etc., etc.. Really what was needed was one stop shopping for reliable, current information written by people who actually go to Paris.

We put this website together just for this reason.

This website will enable us (and travelers like you!) to share our experiences, compare notes, update travel details, and everything else necessary to make this your trip of a lifetime! As you can see from the menu items on the left, you'll find everything you need right here, in one spot, from booking hotels to the weather in Paris. The pages on this site will help you become more comfortable with your trip planning and realize your dream of going to the City of Lights! Oh, and by the way, when you return, please stop back and share your experience with the rest of us. All of us love to hear about our beloved city!

And speaking of "sharing your experiences" ...

A Family's First Trip to Paris!

Dinner at 58 Tour Eiffel on the first floor in the Eiffel Tower

Dinner at 58 Tour Eiffel on the first floor in the Eiffel Tower

Dinner at 58 Tour Eiffel on the first floor in the Eiffel Tower Even though we had to cut out our half day trip to Montmarte, we still got to get our daughter's portrait sketched! Is this the life or what? Riding a carousel in front of the Eiffel Tower! Me with the macarons from my cooking class at La Cuisine Paris.

I discovered this website only weeks before the first trip to Paris for me, my husband, my young children and my mom. What luck! I got the idea to eat in the Eiffel Tower from this website! Though the Jules Verne restaurant looked amazing (1 michelin star!) we opted for the more kid friendly restaurant one floor down called 58 Tour Eiffel. It is still upscale, but it has a kids menu. Also, this allowed us to go up in the Eiffel Tower without having to wait in the long line! I, like many, am very drawn to the Eiffel Tower so we did other fun things there like getting our five-year-old daughter's portrait sketched with the Eiffel Tower in the background. It may have been a little pricey at 30 euros, but how many opportunities do you get to have such an experience and to be able to remember it with a cute sketch? We also loved taking the girls to the carousel right next to the Eiffel Tower. Great photo op! I so wanted to take a cooking class in Paris, but I really did not want to take a full day away from the family. I found a great establishment in the 4th Arrondissement called La Cusine Paris. I took a 2 hour class on making macarons, and we got to take the product (rapberry white chocolate and lemon macarons) back to our hotels with us! What an extraordinary city and experience! Merci Paris!

Regaining my Joie de Vivre

Regaining my Joie de Vivre in Paris

2010 was a wonderful year for me, a year welcomed with open-arms following what had been a challenging period in my life. Life tends to be cyclical, and when you’re facing life’s challenges, it’s easy to become detached from the simple joys of life surrounding you. As I waved a grateful goodbye to 2009 and welcomed in the New Year, I made a promise to search for my missing joie de vivre.

My journey back to joy began with a sojourn to Paris, a trip filled with anticipation and high hope for restoring my soul and reawakening my senses. I simply love to travel; I believe it possesses curative powers to realign the mind, body and soul. The thought of having Paris to myself made my heart sing and my mind swirl, feelings much like the ones experienced when embarking on a new love affair. I began my stay in the City of Lights by renting a beautiful apartment in the Marais district of town. Located in the 4th arrondissement, “Le Marais” is a vibrant and lively community close to the center of Paris. As I settled in and acquainted myself with the neighborhood, I set out to find a cozy café where I would be welcomed after a long day to unwind with an aperitif or linger over my morning coffee and croissant. I promptly found one; Paris is overflowing with such comfortable respites and visitors are seldom without a touchstone for long.

Much to my delight, I quickly adapted to the cadence of Parisian life and gave my internal clock permission to reset itself to a blissful pace. The weather in early October was resplendent – the perfect marriage of sunny & warm and crisp & clear – ideal weather in which to walk. Walking through Paris is arguably the best way to see it, exploring the nooks and crannies brings forth something new and interesting with every turn.

My vision became pixilated as I witnessed the vibrant colors of autumn peak against the backdrop of the Seine and the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower blend into the evening sky. My sense of smell came alive with each passing bistro, where enticing aromas danced lightly in the air and filled my head with fragrant bubbles. The small, subtle elements of beauty that whisper old-world charm into everyday life became a constant companion. Time seemed to stand still as I sat at a sidewalk café, a glass of Beaujolais in-hand, and watched the world pass by. Paris truly is a sensory experience.

I immersed myself in the cultural treasures Paris has to offer, and spent many an afternoon lingering in its splendid museums where the talent of the impressionists held me captive and the art spoke to me in its silent language. Evenings were filled with luscious restaurants, fabulous concerts and delightful new friends.

The weather turned colder as December approached, a seasonal change that held its own allure. Seeing the promenade at the foot of the Eiffel Tower glistening with a carpet of fresh, white snow is majestic. The Champs Elysee’ was transformed into a winter wonderland, replete with thousands of diamond-like lights, and the smell of Christmas spilled out from the holiday booths that lined the boulevard. I left Paris in late December with a reignited joy in my soul but a newfound sadness in my heart. The time seemed to whisk by with the blink of an eye and I spent much of the flight home contemplating when I would return.

The best gift of this trip however may have been the quiet time of reflection and peace that enveloped me as I quietly made my way through the cobbled streets and fashionable boulevards, feeling a growing sense of hope that was nourished by the heartbeat of this grand city. Parisians really do know how to live their lives with a sense of beauty and the element of joie de vivre… not only do they take the time to stop and smell the roses, they remember to pick up a baguette along the way.

Here's a montage created from some of my favorite photos:

Our First Paris Breakfast

Our First Paris Breakfast

Our First Paris Breakfast View From Rue Cler Cafe Safe Haven on Champs Elysees Place de la Concorde

My husband and I came across your site last night, saw the “What are your Paris visitor stories” link and decided we had to share our own experiences!

After much procrastination over many years we finally decided to go to Paris. We read everything we could before we went (wish this site was around then!), made our reservations and departed. We had a MAGNIFICENT time!!! We found the people of Paris are very friendly even though we had heard they were just the opposite. One thing we did notice was that there did seem to be more tension on the weekend but I guess that’s to be expected.

Here are some the pictures we took on our visit. There are many many more that I’ll share later but I just wanted to highlight a couple that are meaningful to us!

The first is actually our first breakfast in a Paris café. My husband usually has BIG breakfasts when we travel back home but it was amazing how he seemed to get right in the swing of things!

It was perfect to start the day sitting in the café watching the Parisians getting their breads from the shop across the street. This picture was taken on Rue Cler – a must see for your first trip.

The street scene is the famed Champs-Elysées taken from the safety of a pedestrian island in the middle of the street! This was during the week which with much less traffic than the weekend. The Arc de Triomphe is at one end and the fountain at Place de la Concorde is at the other. The fountain is famous as marking the spot where so many were beheaded during the French revolution include King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

I’ll close now but will include more later. Thanks for letting me share!
